LOS ANGELES

November 25, 2018 by Marina Goldi

West coast is best coast in this 48HRS - LA series. We packed our bags for a long weekend in the city of angels to explore the old and the new. There are tons of areas in this SoCal wonderland, we sought out a mix of local favorites and celeb spotting destinations for you to choose from. Alexa: Play Unwritten by Natasha Bettingfield - we’re heading for the Hills!

DAY 1

8:00 am | Founded by a Detroit-native, Y7 Studio is sure to set the tone for your trip. Fan out your mat, settle into the heated, candle-lit room and get ready to flow to the latest beats. There’s no tranquil spa playlist here- just all of the Cardi B you never knew you needed in your yoga class. Pro Tip: If you’re planning a trip during the week, be sure to hit up hip-hop Wednesday’s!
8270 Melrose Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90046

9:30 am | The originators of “But First, Coffee”, this cafe is much more than just that. Alfred Coffee was founded by a local entrepreneur to brighten up Melrose while adding a pep to your step. The ingredients are simple and fresh, and the coffee is strong. With menu items like matcha lattes and nitro oat milk cold brew, we see why coffee is always a first. Pro Tip: Pop by the tea room on Alfred Street if you have time!

Los Angeles, CA 90069

10:15 am | Join the Palisociety for the weekend at the Palihouse Hotel. Tucked inside of West Hollywood among the shops and cafes are these cozy guest suites, equipped with everything you’ll need to feel at home for a few days. Don’t pass up the charcuterie board at Mardi restaurant or an old fashioned in the lobby cocktail lounge during your visit. Pro Tip: The rooftop looking over West Hollywood and the Hills is a must-do for a sunrise view to take your breath away.

11:30 am | If you don’t have the Bird app in your hometown, get on the iTunes and download it ASAP- you’ll want it for this trip. These electric scooters landed in Detroit and a few other cities around the country and we couldn’t be more in love. Zoom down Sunset Blvd and beat the traffic to get to Melrose for some afternoon shopping. Some of our favorites are the Glossier store, Away Travel, Fred Segal and A.P.C.

11:45 am | Cecconi’s for brunch is always a good idea. The building itself is a bit tucked away, but once you get through the walls of greenery you’ll find an open-air patio waiting for you to enjoy a mimosa and some Venetian-style Italian fare. We won’t judge you if you order the pizza. Pro Tip: Soho House members get a discount on Monday’s!

1:00 pm | Shopping after you have a little brunch buzz makes the prices seem lower, no? We found some fun pop-up shops on Melrose that were unique to the area. There’s always something new happening on this block, so take a little more time to check out the local merch. We could’ve spent about a decade in this vintage shop!

4:00 pm | You’ll want to head back to Palihouse to drop your bags and freshen up. Shopping is hard work!

5:00 pm | Next to the Fred Segal store on Sunset is the Kith store, and most importantly, Kith Treats. This hype beast focused retailer knows how to hit the sweet spot, literally. Designed to appeal to your inner childhood love of cereal and ice-cream, indulge while you spend a moment to take in the hottest street style designs around you.

Los Angeles, CA 90069

6:00 pm | Settle yourself into a cozy booth inside of this dimly-lit hotspot. The Nice Guy is a creation by no other than the h.wood group. It’s been around for a few years now, but will always be a favorite. Designed to resemble the era of the Mafia serving up classic Italian menu items like Cacio de Peppe and strong drinks, your night is sure to be off to a great start. Make sure to make a reservation in advance, they don’t take walk-in’s. Pro Tip:

8:30 pm | The Roxy Theatre has been a staple on Sunset since the 70’s. Featuring emerging and established artists, you can feel the history as you watch these performers light up the stage. It’s iconic second level bar, On The Rox, is also worth checking out.

9009 Sunset Boulevard
West Hollywood, California 90069

11:00 pm | Another stylishly chic h.wood outpost, Delilah takes you back to Hollywood’s golden era during the roaring 20’s with their swanky interior and old-school vibes. Have yourself a night with lounge style bottle service following dinner hours, or catch some live entertainment at the bar in this timeless late-night joint.

7969 Santa Monica Blvd
West Hollywood, CA 90046

DAY 2

7:00 am | Time to sweat out the cocktails from last night at Runyon Canyon Park. You definitely don’t need to be a pro to enjoy this 3 mile loop trail near West Hollywood. Your hike can range from 1-3 miles, depending on the path you take. Fire Road is the easiest trail with a few rest stops along the route. Definitely don’t miss the views from Inspiration Point or Clouds Rest.

2000 N Fuller Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90046

8:30 am | After that uphill climb, breakfast at Go Get Em Tiger is a must. They have two locations in LA, but the Los Feliz outdoor patio seating is worth the drive. The artful menu items bring flavors you never thought to pair together, but leave you pleasantly surprised. Go for a sweet or savory dish and an iced almond milk latte and you won’t leave disappointed. Pro Tip: Act like a local and order the off-menu espresso ice cream.

230 N Larchmont Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90004

9:30 am | Head back to the hotel for a quick shower and to rejuvenate for another day on the town. Sunny skies and (more) shopping are ahead!

10:30 am | The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is in the Miracle Mile vicinity of LA. Sitting on Museum Row, adjacent to the La Brea Tar Pits, it’s the largest art museum in the western United States. It holds more than 150,000 pieces extending from ancient times to the present as well as film and concert series.

5905 Wilshire Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90036

12:30 pm | Hop into your car for a drive along the Pacific Coast to Venice Beach. The views of the ocean certainly help while sitting in LA traffic.

1:30 pm | Another Detroit-founded outpost, Gjusta is everything you could want in a bakery and cafe. Sit on the back patio and soak up the sunshine while you enjoy your house-made baked items and the freshest seafood and meat offerings.

6:30 pm | One of the new kids on the block in Santa Monica, Elephante sits on the rooftop of a high-rise overlooking the beach. Yielding the perfect setup to enjoy a cocktail a perfect view of the sunset or a cozy night by the fire, this beach house atmosphere gives us all the feels. The food is equally as beautiful as the interior & the whipped eggplant is a must with the wood-fired bread.

8:30 pm | Not far from dinner is one of the hottest day-to-night bars, Bungalow. Grab a glass of Whispering Angels and soak up the celebrity sightings you’re about to endure.

101 Wilshire Blvd
Santa Monica, CA 90401

10:30 pm | If you’re not looking for SHOREbar you would miss it- this locally loved watering hole feels like you walked into your best friend’s house for a party. Strangers quickly become dance partners as you party the night away to throwback remixes by some of the best DJ’s.

112 W Channel Rd
Santa Monica, CA 90402

2:00 am | You need your rest. Grab a lyft to the hotel and catch some well-deserved zzz’s.

Thank you to the teams of: the h.wood group, Y7 Studio, Elephante, Go Get Em Tiger and the Roxy Theatre for making our LA trip AMAZE. We <3 u.

Onto the next city!

Swipe right for a match made in taco heaven 😍 seriously though, @happystacoshop in @thelittlefleet was probably the best way to start our Traverse foodie tour. 10/10 would go back for that potato taco again.
